On January 30th and 31st 2013 Hometown Firefighters held our first annual Educational Dinner meeting. Our Nassau County meeting was hosted by our friends at the Levittown Fire District. Many thanks to Commissioner Joel Bearman and members of the Levittown Fire Department for helping us coordinate this event! Our Suffolk County meeting was held at the Holbrook Country Club. We had over 250 attendees and your feedback was positive. This year’s discussion was on changes in LOSAP’s across the State. Hometown’s actuary, Vince Spina of Harbridge Consulting Group, discussed LOSAP plan funding, funding ratios, and the importance of having a fully credentialed actuary. Also discussed were the effects of lowering the age of entitlement, and how the EEOC ruling to pay for earning service past the normal entitlement age affects some plans.
We will be having our next informational dinner in January 2014 and we welcome your ideas on topics that may be of interest to you. Feel free to contact Diane Setter at 631-589-2929 to offer suggestions or to ask any question you may have regarding our last meeting.
