Along with shopping for school supplies, there are many important actions to take to be prepared for going back to school. Whether you are entering elementary school or going back to college, going back to school is marking the beginning of great new experiences that will pave your way to an even greater future. Make sure you take them head-on with the right attitude and tools you need to be successful!
Here are some helpful tips and tools for going back to school:
Routine/Start a morning schedule
Having a day-to-day routine can help with stress and anxiety. It allows us to create positive daily habits that promote self-care.
To-Do List/Be Organized
Staying organized and having a to-do list help with stress and anxiety as well as having a routine to follow.
Get ready the night before
Is there really such a thing as a “morning person”? Let’s face it in the morning we are usually rushing around trying to get out of the house to be at school/work on time. Having everything ready to go the night before can help alleviate some of the morning stress and cut down on the time we take to leave the house.
Eat a healthy breakfast
Doctors even say a healthy breakfast is the best way to start your day. Give your brain some of the fuel it needs to get going!
Map out your schedule
Knowing what you are doing for the day and where you need to be ahead of time is a great way to help take the stress away from the day.
Pack a healthy lunch
Again, brain fuel is very important!
Get ahead with reading
If your teacher gives you a list of books you will be needing to read throughout the year it is always a good idea to get ahead with your reading. Reading something once and not having to rush to get through it, and then going over it a second time with the class is a great way to absorb information. Reading strengthens your ability to focus.
Train the brain
Strengthening your brain with reading and brain games is the same as working muscles out with weights. If you want to become stronger, you need to work for it!
Don’t steal time from social life and fun
Having fun in life is just as important as studying is. Playtime helps you to continue exploring your own interests and build skills you will use in the future. It is the building block for establishing confidence, coping abilities, flexibility, and positive interactions with others.
Stick to a bedtime routine
Sleep is very important! It resets not just the mind but also the whole body. You heal while you sleep and are refreshed in the morning. In addition to the health benefits sleep gives you, a bedtime routine can help self-care and lay the ground for working memory, attention, and other cognitive skills. Bedtime routines can also help foster parent-child bonding.
Be Positive
What you put out is what you get back! Stay upbeat and positive things will happen!
Make friends
Making friends is one of the best things about school. These can be life-long or temporary, either way, you help each other through the years and will make memories that last a lifetime.
If you or your child are going back to school we at Hometown wish you the best of luck, have a great year!
