April Showers Bring…Flooding!

Website: FEMA

Material Excerpted From: FEMA – Flood Insurance

As you know, living on Long Island, there is always a chance of flooding… especially during this time of year. Heavy rains and the pending hurricane season all can impact our homes and businesses. At Hometown Insurance, we provide Flood Insurance policies through National General, Wright Flood and The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

Floods can happen anywhere: just one inch of floodwater can cause up to $25,000 in damage. Most homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage. Flood insurance is a separate policy that can cover buildings, the contents in a building, or both, so it is important to protect your most important financial assets — your home, your business, and your possessions.

A flood insurance policy provides flood insurance to property owners, renters and businesses, and having this coverage helps you to recover faster when floodwaters recede. The NFIP works with communities required to adopt and enforce floodplain management regulations that help mitigate flooding effects.

Flood insurance is available to anyone living in one of the 23,000 participating NFIP communities and Hometown can write a policy in nearly every state. Homes and businesses in high-risk flood areas with mortgages from government-backed lenders are required to have flood insurance.

Have you reviewed your flood risk? Please be aware there is a 30-day waiting period for the policy to take effect. It is not too late to obtain flood insurance for this upcoming Atlantic hurricane season that starts June 1 and lasts through November 30.

Call your local Hometown Insurance Agent to review your flood insurance options at 1-800-568-SAVE (7283) or contact us by email at for helpful information.
