College Bound Children? Some words of advice from someone who knows…
Interview by Sara Thomson
Tell me a little bit about yourself:
Teresa: I will be married 30 years this September. We have 3 children; Matthew (26), Timothy (24), and Nicholas (20), spending time with them is priceless now since they all have gone off to college or are on their own. On the weekends I enjoy reading books and gardening. I love taking day trips with my husband on the weekend. Spending quality time with family is very important at this stage in our lives.
Since you have 3 children who have graduated or are in the process of graduating do you have any advice for the first time college parent?
Teresa: Make sure your kids major in something where there are available jobs – you don’t want them to graduate from college and be unemployed. Make sure they want to work in whichever field they choose too. It’s important for your kids to get the full experience of college by taking classes outside of their major, joining clubs they haven’t been in before. They only get one chance to do that, and it goes so fast.
What do you wish you knew before your children went to college and now that the house is empty?
Teresa: I wish I knew how quickly they would become independent once they went to college. They don’t need their parents for everything. I also wasn’t ready for how quiet the house would become.
How long have you been in the insurance industry?
Teresa: I have been in the insurance industry for almost 25 years. I started working at Hometown in March of this year, and have enjoyed every moment.
What type of insurance do you work with?
Teresa: Home, Auto, Motorcycle Insurance and Umbrella Insurance most often.
Favorite part of your job?
Teresa: I love interacting with customers and answering their questions.
What do you want your clients to know?
Teresa: We can’t always lower a premium but our role is to make sure you have the best policy & coverage possible within your budget, for your insurance needs. We shop for you.
What is one thing everyone should know about insurance?
Teresa: Insurance is something you need. Insurance can be confusing but we are here to help you understand your policies. Just call anytime to review or ask questions about your coverage.
